Loving these Circuit Boards

I know this may look like a bunch of carts full of old circuit boards… but this picture makes me ridiculously happy.

These boards are headed down to a processor in Denver, where they’ll be properly recycled and broken down so valuable materials like copper, gold, silver, and other metals can be recovered and used again.

Here’s a fun copper fact: A common circuit board is made using copper layers measured at about 1 ounce of copper per square foot of board area per layer. That copper layer is only about 35 microns thick! A small 4” × 6” board with one full layer would start with roughly 4.7 grams of copper before the circuitry is etched into it. Multiply that by board after board, cart after cart, and suddenly all that recoverable copper really starts to add up.

That’s the part I love.

Something comes into Green Girl that has reached the end of its useful life. We sort it, handle it correctly, get it to the right processor, and suddenly what looked like “junk” becomes a resource again.

THIS is recycling. ♻️

And honestly, there is something incredibly satisfying about looking at cart after cart of circuit boards and knowing they are going exactly where they’re supposed to go.

It’s good for the environment, it keeps valuable materials in circulation, and it’s a service I’m really happy we can provide to our community.
