🌎 Earth Day: From a Protest… to a Promise We Keep Every Day

On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans stepped outside and demanded something better.

Cleaner air.Cleaner water.A future that didn’t treat the planet like an afterthought.

And just like that… Earth Day was born.

What followed was incredible:

• The creation of the EPA

• The Clean Air Act

• The Clean Water Act

• The Endangered Species Act

One day… turned into lasting change.

🌱 Fast Forward to Today

Earth Day is now global, with over a billion people participating each year.

And here in Colorado?

We’re stepping into a powerful new chapter with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging… a game-changing shift that helps fund recycling systems, expand access (especially in rural and mountain communities 🙌), and make recycling easier for everyone.

This is the kind of progress people in 1970 were fighting for. (Much more to come this year about EPR, hauling rates possibly changing or going away - etc! Super exciting time in Colorado!)

Because 28 years ago…

We built Green Girl Recycling on one simple idea:

We didn’t see barriers… we saw opportunity.

And today, every pickup, every pound diverted, every customer who chooses to recycle…

That’s the movement in action. (Attaching one of our original T-Shirts from over 20 years ago.. that was inspired by EARTH DAY! We need to bring this look back in 2026)
